It was a great pleasure to give an interview to Ellie from ProLandscaper magazine a couple of weeks ago; we talked about the importance of horticulture and the need there is in the design industry for professionals with knowledge and experience of plants.
We also talked about the Green Plan It Challenge and the impact the competition had on the pupils of Swanlea School – the team that won the competition and later entered for the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. A great achievement for 15-year-old secondary school students!
I cannot stress enough the importance of incorporating horticulture, gardening and design into the school/educational agenda. More than being just professions, horticulture and landscape architecture can give you essential tools for life: a problem-solving attitude, strategic thinking, patience and a love of nature. Learning to grow your own tomatoes is a bonus!
