Concept

Integrating nature into urban life

The proposed redevelopment of a central site in Basildon town centre aims to transform the area into a vibrant, green urban space.

The project emphasizes landscape and planting design as the core elements to create an inviting, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing environment for residents and visitors. We focused on integrating nature into urban life, providing a green, sustainable, and engaging environment that enhances the quality of life for all who visit or reside in the area.

Key features

Green spaces

A large, open green space serves as the focal point of the development, providing a communal area for relaxation, events, and recreational activities.

In addittion, smaller, themed gardens scattered throughout the site, each offering unique plant species and design elements to enhance biodiversity and provide quiet retreats.

Native flora

Incorporation of native plant species to support local wildlife, promote sustainability, and reduce maintenance costs. We applied a dynamic planting strategy to ensure the site remains colorful and attractive throughout the year.

Interactive play area

Designated areas with play equipment integrated into the landscape, encouraging physical activity and engagement with nature for children. We designed a variety of seating areas, including picnic spots and outdoor dining spaces, to encourage social interaction and community gatherings.

Green roofs

Use of green roofs on buildings to provide insulation, reduce heat island effect, and create additional habitats for wildlife.

Walking paths

Well-designed pathways to promote walking and cycling, enhancing connectivity within the town centre and to surrounding areas.

Cultural spaces

Areas designated for performances, markets, and cultural events, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere.
